Hatikvah

Activity:

The pupils receive the poem in Hebrew and English cut into strips. The task is to reconstruct the poem in both languages.

(For weaker students, the Hebrew and English translation
can be cut as a single strip or 2 lines can form a single strip.)

המינפ בבלב דוע לכ
    ,הימוה ידוהי שפנ
המידק חרזמ יתאפלו
- היפוצ ןויצל ןיע

,ונתוקת הדבא אל דוע
,םיפלא תונשמ הוקתה

וניצראב ישפח םע תויהל
.םילשוריו ןויצ ץרא

So long as still within our breasts
    The Jewish heart beats true,
So long as still towards the East
   To Zion, looks the Jew -

So long our hopes are
     not yet lost,
Two thousand years we
     cherished them,
To live in freedom in the land
   Of Zion and Jerusalem.
