The Western Wall

| The Western Wall is part of the remains of a
huge courtyard Herod built to surround the Second Temple. Jews made pilgrimages to the
Temple on Pesach, Shavuot and Succot. For many, many centuries Jews continued to visit
this site to remember the destroyed Temple. Nearly 2,000 years later the city was divided
between Israel and Jordan, and Jews could not come to the Wall at all. Since the city was
reunited in 1967 the Wall has become a place for prayer and celebration. |
