Work with the class to create a story which can be based on an historical incident, a series of pictures on a particular subject, a newspaper headline, a known event, etc. Encourage each student to make a contribution so that all the students can feel that it is their story. Write the sentences on the board so that all the students can follow the story as it is constructed. Before the next lesson, condense the story into about twelve sentences. Type the sentences out and cut into strips. At the next lesson pass out the strips, making sure that everyone gets at least one. Tell the students to reconstruct the story in sequence. Once the sentences are in the correct order, ask individual students to dictate the story to you. (See "Creative Drama" - walking traffic technique)
