Equipment: Tape recorder; cassette; pen and paper. Preparation: Record parts of popular and old time Israeli songs that are approprite for the assignment you wish to give the class. Do not record the entire song as this is time consuming and defeats the purpose of the game. Procedure: Divide the class into equal heterogeneous groups. An Israeli song is played and the groups are required to carry out a given task. Give the groups time for deliberation and time to jot down their answers. The answers must be reported in English. What is the theme of the song? What is the singer trying to tell us? When was this song popular? What event inspired the song? Is it still popular and why? What images does the song evoke? etc. Procedure: Divide the class into equal heterogeneous groups. Each group writes a story relevant to the subject (Zionism / Israel). Three mistakes are purposely planted into the story. When the story is read to the class, the other groups have to figure out the mistakes. The first group that has the correct answers scores three points.. Avi Tsur |
