Make a list of meaningful words from a text, story, poem or song. Have at least fifteen words on the board. Go over the list with the students making sure they can read and understand them. On a scrap paper, have the students draw a nine-box grid. They choose any nine of the words listed which they then place in the nine boxes wherever they wish, one word per box. Inform the class as to which pattern will be the winning pattern. (EXAMPLE: an X pattern / the top and bottom row / etc.). While listening to the reading passage or hearing to the song, each student circles the word in his/her grid as he hears it. The first person to have the designated pattern is the winner. * Before reading the passage to the class tell students to write/tell
an imaginary story with the words Avi Tsur |
