ACTIVITIES BASED ON ARTICLES

Each activity selected should be developed and modified for the particular class. In most cases, activities can be performed by individuals or groups.

Photocopy articles (Hebrew or English)

1. Separate headlines from articles and distribute them at random to groups of four to five students. Each group must try to guess as much as possible about the contents of the article.

Distribute the articles (without the headings) randomly. The students
should mill around the room to find "their" article.

In the group, students mark with a colored marker all the content ideas
they managed to predict.

2. Distribute an article and ask the group to relate to it from different points
of view - * a person involved in the event * a political activist
              * a person from another country * a child
              * a politician

Discuss in class: How did the story change in each case?

3. Letters to the editor - Students with different opinions write letters to the
editor (based on an article read in class).

4. Change an article into a radio report. (Assign roles)

a) The news reporter:

Include the following information:
* Where
* When
* What
* Who
* How
* With what results
* Additional information

b) Prepare an interview with a person who is connected to the subject.

5. Predict the contents of an article through vocabulary.
