2000 - 2001 school year

31.5.2001

This information is to be passed on to all the teachers at your school!

Dear REEDers Shalom,
At yesterdays Pikuach meeting we were informed that the "Yomana" test for new immigrants and for teachers who need it for certification, will be held at three centres this coming Monday, June 4.

You are requested to go to any one of the following centres:
Seminar K,    June 4,  time 12:30     (South,  Bear Sheba)
Michlelet Levinsky, June 4,  time 12:30 (Centre, Tel Aviv)
Michlelet Sha'anan,   June 4,  time 14:00 (North,  Haifa)

The test comprises of- Reading Comprehension, Writing Tasks, and Sentence Correction. 80 and above is a passing grade. GOOD LUCK!

It has come to our attention that the information being sent out to schools is not reaching the English Coordinator. One of the main ideas of REED is to have an open channel of information to and from the schools and it is the schools responsibility to see that the information REACHES all the English teachers.

Shabbat Shalom

Avi

4.4.2001

Dear REEDers, Shalom

Our Summer two-day in-service program is scheduled for June 27-28 (Wednesday/Thursday) at Nir Haemek school. This year, unlike past years, we recommend full board and lodging at the school at a minimum price. We will have an evening (educational/fun) program. We will be sending registration forms to the schools after the Pesach vacation.

Wishing you all Chag Sameach.

Avi and Tzevet Ha-hadracha.

22.3.2001

Dear REEDers Shalom
Machleket B'chinot has sent me a fax stating that the following teachers have not given the information as REQUESTED! This means that they will not receive the Ktav Minui.

Please forward the information to my office (IN HEBREW and TYPED) by Sunday.
I must forward the information by Monday.  Fax. 03-6898793

Dina Livne
Sandra Yaniv
Natalia Mintz
Olag Ilshtein
Perlman Gershon
Shuli Rabinovitz
Keren Richman

The spelling of the names may be incorrect as I have a poor fax form sent from Jerusalem.

Dear REEDers shalom
Please note that the "Mikud" for the Oral Bagrut is up on the net and MUST be abided by. 3 Point students are tested on 2 short stories and any one of the Extensive Reading Tasks.

The Bagrut Rules and Regulations should be downloaded and a copy made for all Bagrut teachers.

Shabbat Shalom
Avi

20.3.2001

Dear REEDers shalom

PLEASE NOTE: You CANNOT test the oral bagrut until you have officially received the forms (13) from the Ministry (Jerusalem) and the Mikud for the 3 point Reading program.

Even if the Testing Department has said you can test without a Ktav Minui.

Shalom
Avi

15.3.2001

Dear Friends
I contacted the testing department yesterday to be told that the "Ktav Minui" still has not been sent.

Please note: Schools who have organized the test and testers have not received the contract, have the GO AHEAD FROM THE TESTING DEPARTMENT as
long as the testers are those whose names we sent in. These names have already been recorded on the computer.

Schools and Testers. MAKE SURE that you are using the official, updated grading scales which are different to last years. The updated scales can be found on ETNI at: http://www.etni.org.il/ministry/bagrut/oralscales2001.htm
The grading grid will be posted on ETNI early next week (forms 13a and 13b).

3 pointers are tested on Cue Cards and Forms. No change from last year.
4/5 pointers are tested on Cue Cards. The student chooses a card and interacts with the tester. If need be, s/he has the possibility of asking for another card (without being penalized!) At least 10 questions.

This is a reminder to those who have not as yet informed me. I must have the date/s for the Oral Exam at your school! (3 and 4/5 points)
fax:  03-6898793

All the very best to testers and testees,

Avi and Tsevet Hahadracha.

12.3.2001

Dear REEDers, Shalom
Your schools have already received instructions from the Ministry about the upcoming Bagrut Exam (June 12). The instructions are a copy of last years
with the same problem - Each school will receive 2 tapes and the students must sit as a GROUP, listen to the recording and then answer their booklets.
If you feel strongly (or otherwise) about this issue, please write a letter / have your school write a letter to -

Moshe Dekalo
Testing Department,
Binyan Lev Ram,
Jerusalem
91911

with a copy to Judy Steiner (Mafmarit Anglit)
above address.

I sincerely hope to see this decision changed, a decision NOT MADE by the English Inspectorate.

Please distribute this letter to ALL the testers of your school

Dear Colleagues,

You should be receiving your (ëúá îéðåé) ktav minui  to test soon.

Be sure to set dates with the testers keeping in mind that you may not be able to have the test on a single day. Each tester tests up to 25 students.

The following points are a reminder of the testing procedure –

·  Make sure that the test conditions are favorable
·  Inform the tester of any problem the student has. ( Parents divorced, stutters, over anxious, has a reading problem, …)
·  The tester is required to be student friendly throughout the test
·  The class teacher may be present during the test
·  The school has the right to tape record the test
·  After a number of students have been tested, take a break and go over the grades
·  After student has been tested check with him/her if there were any problems (type of questions asked, clarity of the language, … )
·  The tester is to use his/her cue cards and not the ones used by the school. These cards must be clearly typed and readable.
·  Make sure that the tester is abiding by the grading grid / forms sent in by the Ministry
·  The results must be checked before the tester leaves the school

Kindly notify the office (fax. 03-6898793) as to the date and time that your school will be tested.  We will be spot check at random.  For any problems
on the day of the exam inform me immediately  050-298381

Wishing the students all the very best

For any further queries or information, I can be reached at the office every Monday morning 03-6898828 / 03-6898794

Yours sincerely,

Avi Tsur and the counsellors

This letter is to be distributed among ALL the testers of your school
